Né en 1975 à Téhéran, Iran, Axel Pahlavi est diplômé de l’ENSBA en 2001, a étudié à NYC, Berlin et Sofia et vit et travaille à Berlin.
La peinture d’Axel Pahlavi ressemble à une église sans toit ouverte sur le ciel et les intempéries. Une ruine qui se serait laissée envahir par la végétation.
Elle est un réceptacle ouvert et poreux. Tel un socle qui tient mais accueille le foisonnement tremblant de la vie. Comme si l’artiste tentait de donner un visage au corps d’une peinture morcelée, tiraillée par des tensions schizophréniques. Le corps de sa peinture rassemble la multiplicité du corps du monde qui le traverse : myriade de vies, de rencontres, qui s’incarnent dans sa manière même de peindre. A l’image de la vie qu’elle reçoit, la peinture d’Axel Pahlavi se veut hétérogène, vacillante, changeante. Elle défie et le temps et le lieu, rassemblant l’ici et l’ailleurs, errant du Nord au Sud, de l’Est à l’Ouest.

Axel Pahlavi's painting resembles a roofless church open to the sky and the weather, like a ruin that has been overgrown by vegetation. It is an open and porous receptacle, like a base that holds but welcomes the trembling abundance of life. As if the artist was trying to give a face to the body of a fragmented painting, torn by schizophrenic tensions. The body of his painting gathers the multiplicity of the body of the world which crosses it: myriad of lives, of meetings, which are incarnated in his way of painting. Axel Pahlavi’s painting wants to be heterogeneous and changing. It defies time and place, gathering the here and the elsewhere, wandering from North to South, from East to West.
