C’est en 2018 qu’Alice Vasseur découvre le monotype. On peut même dire qu’elle « entre en monotype », tant elle est happée par cette technique de peinture sur papier, forme d’estampe à tirage unique, et tout particulièrement par la dimension physique qui l’accompagne. De l’application des encres à l’huile sur la plaque au passage par la presse - qu’il faut activer à la force du poignet, en passant par l’utilisation des mains à même la matière, la production de chaque oeuvre implique le corps tout entier.

C’est donc tout naturellement quelle décide de prolonger le geste au coeur de l’oeuvre elle même: le corpus d’oeuvres présentées à la galerie est le fruit d’une une réflexion profonde sur la gravité, nourrie notamment par des projets liant ses oeuvres à la danse contemporaine; l’artiste collabore, entre autres, avec le danseur et chorégraphe Thibault Eferman, avec lequel elle termine en juillet 2024 une résidence soutenue par L’académie des Beaux-Arts et La cité des Arts à Paris. 

Alice Vasseur discovered monotype in 2018. One could even say that she "entered the monotype", so taken was she by this technique of painting on paper, a form of printmaking for a single edition, and particularly by the physical dimension that accompanies it. From applying the oil inks to the plate, through the press - which has to be activated by the strength of the wrist - to using the hands directly on the material, the production of each work involves the whole body.

So it's only natural that she should extend the gesture to the heart of the work itself: the body of work presented at the gallery is the fruit of a profound reflection on gravity, nurtured in particular by projects linking her works to contemporary dance; the artist collaborates, among others, with dancer and choreographer Thibault Eferman, with whom she completes in July 2024 a residency supported by L'académie des Beaux-Arts and La cité des Arts in Paris.
