The Junction is a series of works created by Sasha Brodsky in the Fall of 2022 / beginning of 2023. The word Junction comes from the name of the East New York train station located next to his studio where the pieces were completed. As with all Brodsky’s work, these cityscapes are closely based on observations of New York and Brooklyn in particular, however they do not depict any real place. Instead, they present an abstract image of a city caught on the cusp of inevitable change. Much like Brodsky’s prints and drawings, this series explores the theme of steadily disappearing character of urban landscape. The characters of The Junction define the landscape as much as architecture. Each piece is made on canvas or linen using acrylic paint and soft pastels. This technique has a distinctive feel as it blends a more graphic linear approach with elements of painting, providing the work a unique atmosphere between eastern melancholia and the buste of New-York City.
